ALL ABOUT KITCHEN I Series 1: Refrigeration

Thinking about upgrading your kitchen? Are you building a house and want to know where to invest and where to save money with your kitchen appliances? I want to give you an insight of all the kind of research we have done during the quarantine, and all the good material we have to share with you in regards of brands, prices, deals and technology insight for the kitchen.

COVID-19 is here and is here to stay for a little while. During the quarantine, we spent almost every day doing research for our new home. Due to the confinement, our house (like any other business or project) has been forced to stop operations immediately. And we took this time to sit in front of our budget and start to pick and choose.

(Not final) render of our future kitchen. Note the impact the refrigeration makes in the lay to of my kitchen. We are thinking about filling in gap we left in the cabinets because we might need extra space. And we switched the seating in the kitchen island and decided to put the four stools together. Makes more sense. This will make us take out the wood insert in the island.

When this project came around, we realized it was time to invest in what looked to be our home for the next 10+ years. This is a huge step for us, because since we left our parent’s home we moved countless times, rented many different places, moved countries, etc. So, for the first time, we are going to build a house where we will move in as a married couple and most importantly, where our kids will be born. Big step! With that in mind, we wanted to invest in the longevity of our appliances and thus the longevity of our house. Because this was going to be the only house where we were going to invest money on, and we wanted to do it right.

Today I wanted to talk kitchen. In my opinion, it is one of the most important rooms of the house, and definitely the one where your budget can skyrocket.

REFRIGERATION 101

This is the one department where I might not have good criteria. Because when I think kitchen, I think refrigerator. It is the biggest appliance in your kitchen, the one that will preserve your food and the one appliance that will make heads turn. In my opinion, it is the most important appliance and we decided to go with the best in the business. We also found out that most of the appliances in the kitchen differ their prices because of branding and marketability. However, the technology either stays the same or minimally differs from one another. But it is well known that there is a big difference in technology between Sub Zero refrigerators versus the rest. And if you know anything about refrigeration, you can agree with me that the parents of them all is Sub Zero. The Sub Zero fridge has always been in a class by themselves. Much more than a hallmark of luxury, it is a professional, high functioning food preservation system that doesn’t decrease in value with time. Like I said before when buying a Sub Zero you are not just buying a fridge, you are buying THE fridge and also a luxury accent to your home.

I could honestly find lots of blogs arguing that Sub Zero refrigerators aren’t worth the money. And they could be right. These fridges are $7,000+ and you can find a high tech fridge for $2,500 or less. We decided to purchase the 36” Classic Refrigeration systems from Sub Zero because they accumulate all the points we were looking for in a fridge: quality/longevity, high technology food preservation, superior craftsmanship in terms of design and aesthetic looks and home resale value.

LONGEVITY: Sub Zero products are tested to live 20+ years. They definitely do not compromise the production of their appliances making them the toughest and most resistant products.

FOODS LAST LONGER: I do not want to get into full details about their food preservation technology, their impressive antimicrobial air purification system, their dual refrigeration for the fridge and freezer and they vacuum seal component. I read about it and so will you if you are curious about Sub Zero. But I definitely bought into it.

HOME RESALE COMPONENT: Sub Zero fridge has more brand recognition than any other appliance manufacturer in the industry. It has arguable the most cachet of any other residential kitchen appliance. Having a kitchen that has Sub Zero will most likely become a deciding factor on the purchase of your home.

Other refrigeration brands we took into considerations were Gaggenau, Thermador, and Bosch. These brands aren’t as expensive as Sub Zero; however, the price difference isn’t big enough because you end up paying for marketing and design only.

So thats, that! Next, I will talk all about ovens!
